WHEN SELFIES GO WRONG
Selfie is fun, engaging, entertaining, appreciating, addicting… then can also become confusing… confusing it with valuing oneself through the number of approval from others.
My correspondence inspired this post with young adults and not so young ones who used selfies as a gauge for increasing self-esteem and self-worth.
We post a selfie for a variety of reasons: to engage, share a celebration, current/previous mood/emotions, opinions, a new look/appearance, perhaps a show-off of possessions, other activities, and for some, a secret cry for help… seeking validation and approval.
Some post too much and some not much. Everyone’s intention is unique. Apart from the connection and relationships we have established, social media is about presentation/show, be it business and personal.
It can consume one, as the attention can sometimes be addicting. The ego is feasting.
We can forget our true being because of a mindset of lack that the self is just about this physical body and accolades gained.
It can also depress someone, as one’s true intention can sometimes or most of the time misinterpreted, misunderstood, misjudged, and ignored.
It helps to remember that our worth is NOT just based on how we look, material stuff we have, several likes, and followers.
