THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH ONESELF

“My friend is ignoring my texts.”

“I ‘m always given an excuse not to attend all my invitations.”

“He suddenly stopped calling me.”

“No one is interested in what I say.”

“Nobody notices me.”

“They’re giving me a cold shoulder.”

“My family abandoned me.”

“I’m lonely.”

“I hate myself.”

Ugh, the frustrations of loneliness and expectations from people. One can agree that establishing relationships with people is challenging. It takes years to build one and seconds to destroy it.

If one realizes, everyone started as strangers to each other, from our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and ancestors. No one came to this physical world knowing one’s family. Everyone only finds out as one grows up with them and then learns that relationship forms and grows by being with and surrounding oneself with people and even things.

It is about a connection that links people, the demonstration and expression of feelings and emotions, and a partnership that bonds and seals. Without relationships, growth is unattainable, emotions unmanageable, and love not experienced.

Relationships flourish by opening, allowing, and committing oneself to constant communication. Its dissolution happens for many reasons, and the most common is the loss of interest and communication and the change of priorities and mindset about it.

Strong dependency on others for attention, self-esteem, empowerment, encouragement, and confidence is one big challenge, as it builds high expectations from others and becomes problematic if unmet. This dependency also makes one forget that relationship is also possible with oneself.

How does one connect to oneself, the inner being, the higher self, spirit, and soul? How does one build a relationship with oneself?

Building a relationship with oneself feels uncomfortable, weird, awkward, and challenging for many, as it contradicts the programming of beliefs about denying oneself or self-sacrifice to serve others, as it fosters self-centeredness, self-conceit, selfishness, and even narcissism, and builds fear of being labeled as such.

If one delves deep, the fear of being labeled with names is just about protecting the ego, which separates and divides everyone through race, ethnicity, religion, accolades, and more. It builds either superiority or inferiority. Ego steers one away from discovering the true self causing everyone to be stuck and only identified with the physical body needing constant attention, care, reassurance, protection, security, and approval.

The ego is powerless and fears, while the inner being, higher self, soul, spirit, and the nonphysical nature of human is about power and love.

The creation of separation beliefs is more dangerous than the creation of weapons of destruction as the egotistic needs create high expectations from all people resulting in bickering, mudslinging, wars, and more quagmire. It is such an exhausting way to live.

An awakening is happening, and a shift in the mindset with a new perspective of the collective consciousness is evident. People are more health conscious, doing meditation, yoga, journaling, and many more. The focus of attention is now internal, discovering the powerful and indestructible spirit and the futility of the ego.

Connecting to the inner being, higher self, soul, and spirit is a time for stillness, beingness more than doingness, aloneness, quieting the mind, pausing, detaching from external influences, observing, and listening.

It is a constant introspection, asking and listening to the answers to these questions:

Who am I?

Who am I not?

Why am I here?

What is my purpose?

What is my intention?

How am I?

What do I need the most?

What do I want the most?

Establishing a relationship with oneself is vital as one is always with oneself. Liking and loving oneself is essential. One came into this world alone and shall vanish from the physical world alone.

Some benefits of having a relationship with oneself:

Discovery of the inherent powers to create, rewrite, and change life story through thoughts, words, and actions

Having the right and ability to choose

Liberation from the approval of people

A more appreciation for oneself

Understanding and managing one’s emotions

A more peaceful, quiet, and happier life

A more positive state of mind

A healthier lifestyle

As one discovers more about oneself or experiences a better version, one becomes more understanding, accepting, compassionate, and loving of other sentient beings. It’s a realization of oneness with all. One then is fully ready to serve and inspire others. Let this article end in a poem.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

To change the world

Change yourself first

To teach something

Learn it first

To make someone happy

Be happy with yourself first

To bring peace & harmony

Be at peace & in harmony with yourself first

To love someone

Love yourself first

You are the first things first

To create the environment

You want to experience.
